Clear every breakable brick to advance to the next level
What is Brick Breaker
The paddle-and-ball arcade classic
Brick Breaker is a single-player arcade game. You slide a paddle along the bottom of the screen to bounce a ball into a wall of coloured bricks, clearing every breakable brick to advance. Tough bricks take extra hits, solid bricks never break, and some bricks drop power-up capsules. It is quick to learn and endlessly replayable — the levels never run out and the ball keeps getting faster.
- Pure arcade loop
- Steer the paddle, keep one ball alive, and smash every brick. The formula from Breakout and Arkanoid, rebuilt to feel right with a mouse or a thumb.

How to play
How to play Brick Breaker
Move the paddle, launch the ball, and clear every breakable brick. Catch power-up capsules on the way down and ride your combo for a bigger score.
- 1
Launch the ball
Every level starts with the ball resting on the paddle. Move the paddle to line up your first shot, then click, tap, or press Space to send the ball into the wall of bricks above.
- 2
Keep the ball alive
The ball bounces off the walls, the bricks, and your paddle. Slide the paddle left and right to catch it on the way down. If it slips past the paddle and off the bottom of the screen, you lose a life.
- 3
Clear every breakable brick
Normal bricks break in one hit. Tough bricks show a number and take that many hits. Solid grey bricks never break — you have to play around them. The level is done when every breakable brick is gone.
- 4
Catch power-ups and advance
Some bricks drop a falling capsule. Catch it with the paddle for a wider paddle, a slower ball, a three-ball split, or an extra life. Clear the level for a bonus, then the next layout loads automatically — the levels never run out.
Tips to score higher
- Aim with the paddle, not with hope — move under the ball early so you choose the contact point instead of lunging for it.
- Hit the ball with the edge of the paddle to steer it sideways into a stubborn column; use the centre when you just need it to go up.
- Dig a narrow channel up one side of the wall. Once the ball is above the bricks it clears whole rows on its own while you rest the paddle.
- Tough and solid bricks are obstacles, not targets. Route the ball past them toward the breakable bricks they are protecting.
- Not every power-up is worth a risky sprint. Wide paddle and extra life almost always are; multi-ball is great with space but risky when the wall is nearly clear.
- When multi-ball splits, watch the group, not one ball. Keep the paddle near the centre and make small corrections.
- Grab slow ball before you line up a hard angle, and use the calm to reposition rather than to force a shot.
FAQ
Brick Breaker, answered
Straight answers about the free Brick Breaker arcade game you can play online in your browser.
What is Brick Breaker?
Brick Breaker is the classic paddle-and-ball arcade game. You move a paddle along the bottom of the screen to keep a ball bouncing, and you use that ball to smash a wall of bricks at the top. It descends from Breakout and Arkanoid and is also known as block breaker. This version runs entirely in your browser.
Is Brick Breaker free to play online?
Yes. playbrickbreaker.com is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to buy, download, or install, and there are no interruptive video ads between levels, premium tiers, or paywalls. Open the page and a board is ready.
Do I need to download an app or create an account?
No. The game is the website — a 100% browser-based build with no app-store download and no sign-up. Your high score and stats are saved locally in your browser, so there is no login to manage.
What are the controls?
Move the paddle with the mouse or by dragging your finger, and click or tap to launch the ball. On a keyboard, the left and right arrow keys or A and D move the paddle, Space launches the ball, P pauses, M mutes, and R starts a new run.
How do the different bricks work?
Normal bricks break in one hit. Tough bricks show a number — 2 or 3 — and take that many hits, darkening as they take damage. Solid grey bricks are indestructible and bounce the ball like a wall. Power-up bricks look normal but drop a falling capsule when destroyed.
What do the power-ups do?
Catch a falling capsule with the paddle to trigger it. Wide paddle widens the paddle for about fourteen seconds. Multi-ball splits every ball in play into three. Slow ball drops ball speed to about two-thirds for roughly twelve seconds. Extra life adds a life, up to five.
How many lives do I get?
You start with three. You lose one each time the last ball in play falls off the bottom of the screen, which also clears any active timed power-ups. The run ends at zero lives. The extra-life capsule can raise your total back up to a maximum of five.
How does scoring work?
Chipping a tough brick without breaking it scores a small amount. Destroying a brick scores more and is multiplied by a combo counter that rises with every brick you break in a row. The combo resets the moment the ball hits the paddle or you lose a life. Catching a power-up and clearing a level both add bonuses, and the level-clear bonus grows with the level number.
How do I steer the ball?
The ball rebounds off the paddle at an angle set by where it lands. Strike it with the middle of the paddle for a near-vertical bounce, or with an edge to fire it out sideways at a sharp angle. Positioning the paddle so the ball hits the spot you want is the whole skill of the game.
Does the game ever end?
No. There is no final level. The first several layouts are hand-designed; after that, each level is generated from its number and gets denser, with more tough and solid bricks and a faster ball. A run ends only when you lose your last life, so your score and best level are the measure of how far you got.
Can I play Brick Breaker on mobile?
Yes. The layout is portrait and built for touch: drag your thumb along the bottom of the play area to move the paddle and tap to launch. The paddle, the full wall of bricks, and the HUD all fit on one screen, and starting a new run is instant with no page reload.
Does the game save my progress?
Your high score, best level, games played, lifetime bricks smashed, and best combo are saved locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. Because the save lives on the device, a different phone, a new browser profile, or cleared site data looks like a fresh start. A run in progress is not saved if you close the tab.
